Spirals, a symbol of the sun course

                                              Along millennia  symbolic spirals are widespread in Europe

Problem:  It   is  not  known  where, at  what  time  and  why  the spiral developed  as a mythical symbol.  Supposed to  be  the  symbol of the annual sun-course.                                             

                     

a) a sun  wheel,  Scandinavia. b,c,d)  often  used  symbol as concentric
circle. The outside circle may represent ´radiating´
e) The concentric sun-circle devided  in half  by  the horizon. Semi-circle
of the daily sun courses.Winter course´s  short way in the middle, outside the longer way of the summer course.
f,g) The daily sun course enters with a thin line the nocturnal underworld.
A reference to the dawn? Greek vase around 1000 BC. Protogeometric period.
h) Unsuccessful attempt to link the daily with  the  nocturnal sun course ?
i)  Radiating symbol of the sun course, Crete 1700 BC.

The assumption  that the  semi-circles (e, f, g,)  symbolize  the  daily sun course  rising  from  winter (center)  to  high  summer becomes  support

House-urns are widespread u.a.in  Northern Europe. They  symbo-
lize somehow an abode´ in the underworld. Logically then  that the nocturnal underworld sun-courses are  downward directed. (Menghin)
  
In an ionic double spiral the process of the winter-summer  up and  down  course is physically correctly  shown  for one  year. .

Problem: Around a long, perhaps eternal live sequential, never  ending sun symbols are needed. That  is impossible in a twodimensional repre-  sentation.

A  more  simple  variant  and  cheaper in  production.  Concentric cicles  a symbol of the sun , sequentially connected through a tangential line 

                                   

 A   further  simplification   is  the  rectangular  Meander. The  sun course changes  between  forward - and   backward   motions  according  to  the movements in the center of a “sequential" spiral.

At the end of the geometrical  time c.600 b. in  Greece   the  “dominating” spirals,  Meander   and  circles  on   ceramic(s)   became   displaced   by *orientalistic* pictures.
The archaic time of  the  Dorier/ Spartans came to an end. It makes fun to scoff at wreaths and ferryman and Christianity became gradually  ccepted  step  by step along 1000 years

Facit:  An ancient -(megalithic ?)-  European  nature  religion admiring cow and sun loses power. Christianity became  gradually  accepted  step  by
step along 1000 years
